HEX (Hexagonal) Mounting

The 1/4" Hex (hexagonal) mounting system has become the standard in assembly and construction, replacing traditional cylindrical shanks in most handheld power tool applications.

Bearing Steel + Tin (High Speed Steel + Titanium Nitride)

HSS 4241 is clearly superior to bearing steel.

Although bearing steel is a hard material and performs excellently in mechanical applications, it has a critical drawback as a drill bit material: a lack of heat resistance.

TiN stands for titanium nitride—a hard, ceramic coating with a characteristic golden color. The coating itself is extremely hard (approx. 2300 HV), which theoretically protects the cutting edge. Titanium nitride makes the drill bit "slippery." Chips exit the drill bit more easily, preventing them from sticking (especially important when drilling aluminum and plastic).
